![]() ![]() It also gives you, the GM, a great hook to play with. ![]() It shows that they're invested in the world and attempting to engage with it from a mechanically interesting perspective. In my opinion, allowing a dubiously powerful option for the sake of flavor is EXACTLY the kind of thing a house rule is supposed to do.Īt the end of the day, this is a super simple way for a sorcerer to mechanically say "I'm a demon fighter." I'd be overjoyed to allow a player to take that option. Even in a demon/devil heavy campaign, maximize is still the better choice for a feat. Allowing your player to replace a good spell with a bad spell so that they can gain a situational metamagic feat hardly seems broken. Consecrate is a terrible spell for a sorcerer. This doesn't upset the balance of the bloodlines. If you want Resist Energy/Magic Circle Against Evil, nothing would stop you from learning Resist Energy/Magic Circle Against Evil after swapping it out. I don't have a problem explaining why a a celestial bloodline Aasimar can cast consecrate, I have a problem explaining why they can do so but don't have enough divine power to cast any other spells of the same level or higher that can only be cast by faith casters.Īlso, I simply don't like players being able to pick and choose bloodline spells, as it upsets the balance of the bloodlines to do so. If this was the only way to get the effect, I'd be willing to be more flexible, but it isn't. Otherwise, they should have to follow all of the restrictions. If a player doesn't want to deal with the restrictions of the feat, that's what Maximize is for. By its nature, it was designed to be highly specific to who can use it and when it can be used, because it's a cheaper version of another feat. Mostly, it's just that I just don't see why a GM should make a feat like this less situational. You get to be blasty without having to worry about those "lesser elementalists." After a quick search I also turned up this thread on the subject: A quickened, consecrated, 90 points of force damage as a 5th level spell with three chances to bull rush/trip is pretty cool imho, and makes for a solid "signature spell" at high level.Īny dang way, I think that force is actually a pretty cool theme to pick up as a sorcerer. Finally, if you make it to 15th level then spell perfection on Battering Blast could be hilarious. The Piercing metamagic also becomes an option. That means you're going to want to pick up Spell Penetration earlier than later. The only problem that you'll come up against is Spell Resistance. Force punch is likewise hilarious, and admonishing ray is surprisingly effective for the level. Toppling is the go-to play, but the seldom-used Consecrate metamagic is pretty cool too. If you grab the Magical Lineage trait on Magic Missile it can be relevant for a long time.
